Supposedly Cultivated Tastes

The condescending and insecure feel superior by rejecting what others like.

Bourdieu’s observation applies to other areas that involve taste and personal preference - the arts, movies, games, food, etc:

The more strongly a singer is preferred by the less cultivated, the more he or she is refused by the most cultivated – whose tastes in this area are almost exclusively expressed in rejections. These refusals, almost always expressed in the mode of distaste, are often accompanied by pitying or indignant remarks about the corresponding tastes (‘I can’t understand how anyone can like that!’).
